Retro Files #001

Dear Blogosphere: I have yet another confession to make. I’m Twitchy and I have a retro obsession.

I’m  a compulsive collector and op-shopping addict. Depending on your perspective, it’s either a talent or a sickness. In the meantime as I cannot decide, I’m going to catalogue some of my hauls. Not all will be clothing, in fact most of it won’t be. I like glassware, homewares and costume jewellery too. My favourite era is the Art Deco period, but I’m happy right through to late sixties. Sometimes I upcycle or mix and match old elements with new.

The Matching Belt

I’ve been planning to do this for a while. The purpose is two-fold: you get to see The Stuff and I get to have a pictorial record of it if I ever come to my senses and downsize the collection.

The hardest part is snapping myself whilst wearing it! Apologies for the photography standards. Hmmm, might wear this to Blogopolis ;)

A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled upon one of my best ever finds: a pair of made in Australia, blue boots I’m guessing are 70’s era, they say “Paper Giants” to me so that’s my guess. The thing is they are so well made and so well kept they are almost like new. Brand: Courtney Cost: $10. One of my best finds to date. Surely in a retro store they’d be asking $180-$300 for these:

Stunning Colour Blue, Just Like New

For another measly $1 I found a knot-tie belt in almost identical shade of blue- surely they arrived together. Who was I to break up the pairing?
.
In the same shop was this OROTON bag for $20 (!?) At that price I could take it home to decide whether it was too Nanna or if I could Work It. I still haven’t tried it out yet.
